Enter a world of mythical creatures that roam magical landscapes.

We were delighted when a skilled artist asked us to design a website that showcases his latest work. Having a little peak at his portfolio, we knew exactly what we wanted to achieve with this design brief: a digital environment that imbued inspiration and creativity in every corner and crevice.

Tom Paddle produces wonderful paintings that treat the imagination. We really wanted to create a website that made it all about this.

Tom lives in Cornwall with his wife, Penny, and they share their lives with a collection of animals. When he’s not painting magical worlds, he enjoys playing in a band and re-enacting medieval. His is a special world.

We like this website so much, we’d like to talk about it in more detail here.

Design

Straightaway, when we arrive on this wonderful website, we immediately sense an open, inviting world.

But it’s also one that still retains every ounce of professionalism that a client like ours would come to expect. The minimalist atmosphere works in our client’s favour, too, making him and his work the core focus.

Grabbing the visitor’s attention as soon as they arrive, the large, open slider showcases a sliding reel of his pieces.

A white background was an absolute necessity for housing Tom’s paintings – truly giving them the opportunity to look their best with no unnecessary distractions. You’d expect this in a physical art gallery, so a digital space should be no different.

The white background isn’t only functional, however. It actually pairs nicely with the dark grey text font, giving a well-balanced, sleek appearance.

And while we’re on the topic of fonts, PTS Serif is a traditional font that communicates a professional visual that inspires all kinds of values from modernity to serenity. And directing the minimalist website layout throughout, the client’s logo works well with these values, too.

UI

In many ways, the design and UI on this website complement each other nicely. For example, the sleek and simple design makes this interface accessible, unique, and clear. All navigation buttons are legible, functional, and concise.

In terms of usability, this site has it all. The homepage introduces nicely our client’s vision and artwork, providing a nice dose of inspiration for everyone.

Making it Personal

This website has really put all the stops out to make our client accessible to the public. The ‘About Me’ page is perfect for introducing Tom, his interests, and his inspiration for his work. Here, visitors can get to know him more and understand his paintings from a more natural, familiar perspective.

Even painters like to stay connected. The various social feeds placed below the logo on every page ensure he stays relevant and connected in the always-on digital space.

And through the ‘Contact Us’ page, prospective customers can end their journey nicely with a gorgeous painting.
